Dinner at the Lake

Back in buisness...OK...It wasn't easy but I did it. I had to download Firefox and go to Beta...And start a new blog...But we now have pictures!

It seems that my photos weren't too big...just that blogger was having trouble downloading with Internet Explorer.

Anyway, here are some pictures from my dinner at the Tai hu
(Tai Lake).

Kevin's mom, Liu Dong Fen, Kevin and Na Na.

Yours truly, Mom and Na Na.
The boat in the background isn't where we ate...It just looked nice. After taking a tour of it we decided not to eat there. Good view but very dirty.

I don't think this thing even floats!

Across from the boat restaurant.

Next to the boat was this woman mending a fish trap.

These are baskets of shrimp drying in the sun...(and flies)

I'm not a big fan of eating in a place where the catch of the day is hanging out with flies all over it. But that's just me.

On the walk back to the restaurant where we ate I saw these fish traps in the water made from bamboo.

Now this place was clean, cool and the food was great.

To start thing off they brought in the "Drunken' Shrimp".
This is the one with the live shrimp swimming in rice wine and spices.
Then you eat the drunken little shrimp alive.
I did!

Na Na going for the dumplings.

She better get her share before this little dumpling head gets to them!

Me and Na Na.

Hmmmm......Dumplings. This was the only thing on the menu that I recognized so I ordered them. Liu Fen ordered everything else.

This is Little Bamboo and beef...They use bamboo for everything here. From clothes to building and even food.

They brought this cooker in and fired it up, then put a small wok with a catfish in it on top.
It was really good. Liu did the cooking.

This was egg soup with white fish. Now I wasn't thrilled by this but I did try it. It had these whole little white fish in it. Reminded me of hot fish pudding. They loved it so I gave up my share for who ever wanted it.

After trying to translate this into English for a while I made out that it was hot water chestnuts.

Catfish a cookin'!

At first glance I thought "NO...I'M NOT EATING THOSE"!
They are whole deep fried little fish.
They were great...crunchy and tasty!

Before we left I had to poke my head into the kitchen. It must have been 120 degrees in there.

I want to thank Kevin and his family for a wonderful night out.

Jim
